Understanding the Impact of Trauma on Early Childhood Development

This online, self-paced mini course has been designed for early childhood education (ECE) teachers, caregivers, and providers working with children between the ages of 0-8 and their parents.

This course is intended to help ECE educators understand the importance of safe and secure learning environments for young children and their parents. Learning objectives include:

1. Gain an improved understanding of the importance of early childhood for future learning and success aligned with holistic development to promote well-being.

2. Describe the changes in brain development that take place during early childhood. 

3. Understand the impact early childhood trauma has on children’s physical, cognitive, and emotional development. 

4. Explain the importance and benefits of developing an early childhood education program that provides a safe, secure environment with caring adults to support young children. 

5. Develop teaching strategies that address a child’s complete physical, cognitive, and emotional well-being.
